Teacher, YouTuber and host of the Live Laugh Lex podcast Lexie Firment (@missfirment) has made being a “rat girl” part of her online persona, even calling herself a “pretty rat girl.”

If you’re not familiar with what a rat girl is, Firment explained that a rat girl is someone who “tries all the trendy things,” from hair claws to face masks to home decor, but at the end of the day, they’re “still just a little rat.”

In Firment’s definition, a rat girl might be trying all the right things but somehow just seems to fall short of actually achieving the flawless look and life they are aiming toward.

“Cute rat girls, like, they try their best, but at the end of the day, their rat personality just outshines them,” she summarized.

“It’s like.. we’re aaaaalmost there,” observed @tiktokmarge in the comments.

Firment’s TikTok seemed to be a revelation to a lot of people who realized that they are, in fact, “rat girls.”

“I didn’t know I was an aesthetic,” noted @megan.elizabeth.x3.

“Never related to something more,” admitted @haileybirch_rd.

“Cool turns out I am 100% a rat girl,” wrote @thatgoodnewsgirl.

Gabi Hartman (@umgabi) also shared a description of those who are having “rat girl summers,” adding to the rat girl trend. She explained that there are four different types of summer girls, including rat girls, flying squirrels — “who have the heart of a rat” but somehow are living a life of luxury, Hartman added — seal girls and sloth girls.

Girls living their rat girl summers are “doing whatever they want,” “partying and eating whatever she wants,” while “scurrying around” and “not apologizing.”

A rat girl, Hartman noted, will have a “balls-to-the-walls type of summer.”

According to Firment, you might be a rat girl if you meet the following six criteria:

Firment provided video evidence of her own chaos shoe pile for reference.

“I’ll just live with the consequences of my own actions,” Firment said of her subscribing to this particular rat girl mistake.

“You’re gonna use it almost every day, so why would you put it away?” Firment questioned. “Also, your closets are way too full. You can’t fit a vacuum.”

Now, they just sit “awkwardly like a quarter of the way filled.”

“Every time I put them on my bags, they, like, tape my eyelashes,” admitted Firment.

“Dining room tables are utterly expensive for no reason,” Firment said in conclusion. “And if you don’t need one, you’re a rat girl.”
