Hair Accessories Were the Main Character at the 2023 Met Gala — See PHotos

For some, May 1 is just another Monday or the perfect time to execute the NSYNC's “It's Going to Be Me” joke. But for the fashion world, it's basically a holiday because it's the 2023 Met Gala. And as always we are here judging all the looks from our comfy couches.

The 2022 Met Gala was all about celebrating American fashion and glamorous style. This year the theme is an ode to the late Karl Lagerfeld and his decades-long impact on fashion, and celebrities honored the designer in a variety of ways, including gorgeous bedazzled dresses, ball gowns, and full-body paint. Oh, and did we mention that Doja Cat came dressed up as a cat?

Last year, intricate headpieces were a critical part of many looks, and this year it's the same. We spotted tons of stunning hair accessories on celebrities' heads — some headbands and fascinators while others were so abstract, we don't even know what to call them. Here are some of our favorite headbands, hats, and other intricate headpieces at the 2023 Met Gala.

Now this is a top knot. Monae's hair was slicked and twisted into a high bun that looked as long as a CVS receipt. A multipatterned tie adorned the side of her head and face.

Pugh's towering feather headpiece, which could have been as tall as her was already a statement, was already striking. But she took it to another level with a shaved head. Yes, you read that right. Now that's what we call dedication.

During the live stream, Lopez noted to La La Anthony that she wasn't sure whether or not she should wear a hat, and we're so glad she didn't leave this black fascinator at home. Mesh protruded from the cap on her head, covering half of her face and the rest extending to the sky.

Tems was determined to dislocate our jaws with her strapless black-and-white gown and the feathered headpiece that towered over her head. A mesh veil covered half of her face while the rest of the headpiece branched out into several feathers.

At first, we thought Salma Hayek's hair was just a simple low ponytail, but the moment she turned around we got to see the abstract floral pieces along the length of the ponytail.

The “Woman” rapper looked like a literal cat for the night, and her sequined gown even had a matching hood with the cutest tiny cat ears. A chain with a large diamond-shaped head dangled right in the middle of her forehead.
