A new independent gift shop opened in Redcar this week.

Kirsty Caldwell, who lives in the seaside town, opened the doors to her Little Luxuries business on Monday, July 31. The Cleveland Street store sells handmade hair accessories and wax melts, as well as home fragrances, body care products, artwork and and even car cleaning products.

The 35-years-old started making and selling her own hair bows and hair accessories from home around six years ago and the business has flourished since then. So she decided to take the leap and launch her own venture.

And Little Luxuries has already got off to a flying start with plenty of positive feedback from customers.

“I just like being arty and creative and making things," Kirsty explained. "We’ve had quite a bit of feedback.

"People are wanting to come back and buy other products. It’s all been positive feedback.”

The artistic businesswoman aims to “give more of a variety of gifts for people to buy especially in the town at the moment because there’s not a great deal of these kinds of shops now in Redcar”. She added that there is “a little something for everybody".

Kirsty has opened the shop with her partner, Simon Wells, but she will mainly run it on her own, she says. They had just one month to “get it all painted up” which was a “bit of a nightmare” as they had to spent around three weeks constantly painting.

Kirsty said that it was “great” when she shop was ready and she “couldn’t wait to get it open”. Her popular items are hair accessories, wax melts, bath bombs and soft sponges.

There are gifts in the shop for men, women and children and she makes special gift sets for occasions at Christmas. She also offers gift wrapping so if anyone would like a gift wrapped for a birthday present, for example, then she will do this for them herself.

The shop will be open from Monday to Friday, usually from 9am to 5pm. Find out more about Little Luxuries on Facebook.
